How to plan the best fiesta this Cinco de Mayo

Posted by Mark Cohen on

Fiesta! Cinco de Mayo is a day of celebration and fun. To throw a fabulous fun fiesta you've got to have festive music, delicious food and terrific decorations. The traditional tricolor of green, red and white reflect the Mexican flag and are the perfect base of your Fiesta color scheme. Outside parties and celebrations are the perfect venue for your Cinco de Mayo get together. Nothing says "Let's Party!" more than loud music and Cinco de Mayo flashing blinking decorations. Here's how to get your party started...

  • Prepare your entertainment
Burn a CD of your favorite music. Search on the internet for music that is perfect for Cinco de Mayo. Make sure you have a CD player that will be able to be heard over the din of partygoers. If you are planning a huge party, you might consider renting a sound system.

    • Gather your Cinco de Mayo decorations
Purchase some plastic green, red white tablecloths. Find some inexpensive somberos (wide brimmed hats popularly worn in Mexico) and use them for your table centerpieces. Cinco de Mayo party bead necklaces can be placed around the sombrero for more table decor. Your festive table decorations alone will establish a fiesta atmosphere. Light up Fiesta themed party balloons in green, red and white can also be used around the party area on the backs of chairs.

    • Liven up the party with maracas all around
A Cinco de Mayo party would not be complete without maracas. Maracas are traditional hand held instruments that can be used simply as noisemakers, or played in time to the music. No experience required, simply shaking a maraca to the beat of the music is a fun way for anyone to participate in the festivities. Flashing, blinking or motion activated maracas are even more fun!

    • Stock the bar with Margarita mix and hang the lights
Drag out and dust off your old blender, and prepare to make some great Margaritas. Search the internet online for a killer Margarita recipe. Don't forget the salt! Also, you might want to hang some Margarita-shaped string lights around your "bar" area.
Now that you have set the stage for a great Cinco de Mayo party, start the merrymaking. Get the party rolling and let the festivities begin!
